Palmer/Fells’ residence: Big Sur, California
The residence of Peter Fells and Phoebe Palmer is quintessential Big Sur. Perched on an ocean side cliff, the house is as dynamic and bold as the landscape. Everything is made by Peter and Phoebe: all the hinges and hangers, all the wood work is from trees they found, all the drawer pulls are hand hammered sculptures. This house pulls no punches and that is why I’m proud to be a part of it. It’s unapologetically bold. The same is true of my work.
These people live on the edge of the continent. They are Alive! The elements of the building are alive. And the glass is alive with all the changing colors of the day.
Some architects and designers have trouble integrating my work into their projects. The glass simply refuses to be an inanimate object. And so it is. For the right client it makes them giggle every time they come home. Businesses that have my doors say the glass is constantly being fondled by customers. I have honestly seen people blush. These doors are celebratory and they make people happy. Enjoy them.
